Heather Coppard

With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, Heather brings a wealth of knowledge to her writing. Her work as a nurse, health visitor, educator, and hypnotherapist has provided invaluable insights into the challenges women face at different stages of their lives.

Heather has always had a strong professional interest in women’s health issues, focusing on supporting women to optimise their health and well-being.

However, when faced with her own experiences of persistent vulval and vaginal pain, she encountered significant challenges in accessing a diagnosis or treatment. Despite her ability to navigate the healthcare system, Heather faced medical misogyny and a lack of knowledge or awareness from multiple healthcare professionals.

Unfortunately, Heather is not alone in facing these difficulties. It is all too common for women to feel dismissed and unheard when managing their intimate health conditions.

Determined to make a change, Heather collaborated with gynaecologists, dermatologists, and patient representatives to create and chair a vulval pain support group. She also trained as a hypnotherapist and mindfulness practitioner to provide holistic pain-management support to women living with female health conditions.

During this time, Heather was frequently asked to share her journey and recovery. In response to this Heather has worked over the last 4 years to create this essential resource for women and the health professionals who care for them.

It is Heather’s hope that this evidence-based mind-body toolkit will support and empower women in optimising their recovery.
